Clean 3D print, hand-finished for an institutional sporting award.

Brief

Institutional sporting award for the NYU Abu Dhabi basketball programme. It should carry the weight of a trophy, not the gloss of a print.

Process

Modelled in CAD from the university’s brief. SLA-printed in two sections for resolution where it counts: net texture, plaque face. Resin finishing, sanding, primer, metallic paint. Plaque inlay engraved separately and bonded. Mounted on a hardwood base.

Heavier in the hand than a print has any right to be. That’s the finishing doing the work.

Outcome

Delivered ahead of the awards ceremony. Year-on-year reorders followed. The trophy goes back into circulation for each new season.
